Repairing your Snell speaker

Our Snell speakers doesn’t last forever. Some of the models were made in the 70’s, and the woofer foam surrounds, that has been used for many years, will deteriorate. It’s not a question of if – it’s a question of when. Before I had any knowdlege of the making of the Snell speakers, when my foam surrounds in my J3’s started to crumble, I bought, in my opinion, very good Monacor woofers, and threw out the ‘broken’ Snell woofers. A couple of years later, I found out that it was the most stupid move ever. Every Snell speaker, is balanced with the specific tweeter, midrange and wooofer driver. Exchanging them with something else, will make your Snell speakers almost worthless.

What can I do then?
There are a couple of solutions:
1. Refoam the woofers yourself or have someone do it for you
2. Buy new driver at Atomic HIFI in the US. This option is not cheap, but for new units, it’s the only option

You can find several guides on Youtube on how to refoam woofers. It’s not that difficult if you are up for it. Finding someone to do it for you, you can always ask in our Facebook group.
