Snell Stories

“I was working at a high end Audio store in Worcester, MA USA (Sound West) and met Peter several times, when he came for wine and cheese parties. He would mingle with staff and guests to answer questions and give advice on speaker setup. I was given ‘salesmen compensation’ pricing of $660 for my pair of Type 1’s. At the time, Type A’s were ~$2,100 and beyond my ability to buy (1983 or 1984). I now do have Type AII/U’s and the Type 1’s as well. No one leaves my home unimpressed..”

“I met Peter Snell back in the early 70s as both of us were still studying in Boston. Peter often recorded the concerts given by a chamber music series I founded in 1969, the Strawbery Banke Chamber Music Festival. We loved working together on recording the concerts and he was happy for the opportunity as he said it helped him greatly for his loud speaker projects. Snell Acoustics had not yet been founded. His sudden death was a shock to all of us who knew him. I now live in Berlin, Germany (since 1982) and I continue to own a pair of his speakers.”
